You can drive across the bridge to go over to Sausilito and Marin County or veer off along the coastal road to drive down to Stinson Beach ttp://www.stinsonbeachonline.com/. Watch out for big deers in winters. Mount Tamalpais http://www.mttam.net/ is driving distance from here. It has some very good walking trails.
Another place of interest is Muir Woods, which is withinn 25 minutes driving distance from the golden gate bridge.
